Asociación Ese Eja

The weavers of the Ese Eja Association make baskets from the vines of the tamshi tree, which grow near their community of Palma Real. After collecting and processing the vines, the weavers use natural plant dyes made from plants, seeds and fruits to give the fibers their bright colors. Only then can they weave the beautifully designed baskets and fans unique to this jungle community.

Ese Eja is the name of the Indigenous group and language spoken by the community of Palma Real. The community is situated along the Madre de Dios river in the Peruvian Amazon, close to the border with Bolivia.
