Each textile from the weavers of Patacancha is one-of-a-kind and created completely by memory - patterns and symbols are passed down orally through generations, never written down. Every piece incorporates Quechua symbology and patterns unique to this region.

Shawls like this are typical of Andean textile design. The colors and symbols are entirely of the weaver’s own choosing, often representing aspects of her own life or experience in the community. The shawls are meant to be worn but also add beauty to any home as a table runner, wall hanging or decorative throw.

In addition to creating textile products, the weavers have expressed a passion for teaching visitors about the weaving process. We’re proud to work in collaboration with them to host part of our Tintes & Textiles Workshop - learn more about our upcoming workshops here.
